Developmental-Behavioral Consultation is a service offered for children and youth, from birth through 17 years of age, and their families, when there are significant challenges in behavior. PCDA uses a developmental framework to understand behavior and interactions, and uses a developmental approach to improve behavior and support social-emotional growth. Parents are always directly included in the assessment and therapy process. Behaviors are viewed in the context of developmental skills in all areas, a child's individual differences in sensory processing and regulation, and the pattern of family interactions and relationships. The service is provided by a clinician with a Master's or Doctoral degree in psychology, Marriage and Family therapy, counseling, education, childhood development, or a related field.
PCDA is a group of professionals from many disciplines, who work together to provide comprehensive understanding of a child's individual differences. A developmental pediatrician, clinical nurse specialist or therapists from occupational therapy or speech and language pathology may also participate as team members to support developmental-behavioral consultation as appropriate. Parents are always directly included in the assessment and therapy process. Behaviors are viewed in the context of developmental skills in all areas, a child's individual differences in sensory processing and regulation, and the pattern of family interactions and relationships.
This service is vendored by the regional center, and may be authorized for a child with a developmental disability. Developmental-Behavioral Consultation may be the primary service, or it may augment other services, enhancing the child's ability to benefit from another therapy or intervention.
Pasadena Child Development Associates, Inc. offers "behavioral intervention" services as a special education service Certified NPA (Non-Public Agency) to public schools for children 3-12 years of age.
PCDA uses a DIR-FloortimeTM approach to behavioral intervention. A child may be seen at home or at school. A developmental interventionist will be assigned to work with a child from 2-10 hours per week, according to his/her IEP (Individual Education Plan).
Behavioral intervention is used to help a child learn new skills to use in play, social interactions, and daily activities.
